PRN/As Needed
Job Summary
Identifies and accurately codes diagnoses and procedures on all record types including inpatient, all emergency records including the physician component utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4® coding classification systems including Evaluation and Management codes.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Science with emphasis on anatomy and physiology or completion of the AHIMA (AMRA) Independent Study Program in Medical Record Technology (now Health Information Technology. Associate degree in Nursing.
Experience
Five years experience coding in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4® coding classifications preferred
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHOT). Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Procedural Coder (CPC). Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Equipment, Tools, Work Aids
Office Machines, telephone, computer terminal, personal computer, 3M coding software, compliance software.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of federal (CMS) coding guidelines. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4® coding systems and guidelines. Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements. Knowledge of requirements of commercial insurance carriers. Ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately. Flexible, self-motivated, well organized, efficient, accurate, and detailed oriented.
