Upon training and documentation of clinical duties by the Clinical Manager with approval of supervising physician the MA will be responsible for venipuncture, processing of lab tests, quality assurance, clerical duties and rendering professional clinical care within the medical practice in support of and as directed by the physician.
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years of phlebotomy experience in a physician office or hospital setting.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS: Certification as Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), or American Medical Technologist (AMT) preferred. BLS certification required within 90 days of employment.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS: Hematology analyzer, other waived testing equipment, computer, copier and facsimile.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Laboratory equipment, medical terminology, basic computer knowledge, quality control of lab instruments and knowledge of CLIA standards and regulations, ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and time constraints, must be able to memorize specimen collection requirements and certain procedures.
