Job Summary:
Reviews outpatients assigned to a medical/surgical bed on an inpatient unit to determine and assign appropriate outpatient charges compliant with current regulations within 24 hours or one business day of patient discharge as well as specific charges for Emergency Department patients. Responsible for accurate charge entry related to responsibilities. Accurately codes diagnoses and procedures utilizing the appropriate coding classification systems for assigned coding responsibility. Keeps current with CPT-4, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding guidelines and related government rules and regulations. Assists in educating clinical staff regarding services and supporting documentation requirements.

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a healthcare related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Three years in hospital coding, medical records, billing, and/or a clinical setting preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:RN, LPN, CCS, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, and/or CPC preferred.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS: Personal hospital assigned computer, fax machine, copier, telephone, coding and reimbursement software, Craneware online reference toolkit, Microsoft Office software, electronic medical record, and Meditech applications.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledgeable in ICD-10-CM/PCS.
Knowledgeable in CPT-4 coding and medical terminology.
Must be dependable and self motivated with pleasant and personable manner.
Must be able to communicate with physicians and hospital staff efficiently and effectively.
Must be flexible and capable of organizing workload.
Must maintain a professional attitude at all times.
Must have analytical skills with the ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately.
Must be capable of analyzing information and making recommendations for improvements.
Must have legible penmanship.
